Hello all,

Long time listener, first time caller.

I have a socket weld steam trap with a sa 182 f11 body that I need to weld to some sch. 80 "black pipe". My Question is what type of electrode to use?

Where I work if it is carbon steel we root w/ 6010, hot pass and cover w/ 7018 on everything, sockets, flanges, open root, plugging boiler tubes. And everything has "sa 105" stamped on it.

I'm writing this at home so I don't know the grade of pipe off the top of my head. It is seamless pressure pipe, carbon steel, with papers.

My gut tells me to leave out the 6010 and root, hot, and cover with the 7018.

Thanks

P.s. Without going into detail there is no one to answer this question at work.
