it's required to use ASTM A588 GRADE A as the material of exhaust stack. how to describe the corrosion resistent characteristics.if i want to find some similar material in other contry.what's the most important characteristics, chemical composition or mechanical

thanks

A588 has 50 ksi yield and 70 ksi tensile properties.  A242, depending on the size/thickness, is either 50 ksi yield and 70 ksi tensile, 46 ksi yield and 67 ksi tensile, or 42 ksi yield and 63 ksi tensile.  Under proper conditions, it corrodes by forming a dense and tightly adherent oxide barrier that seals out the atmosphere and retards further corrosion.

swnorris ,many thanks ,
i know in USA A588 is also known as corten-B and A242 is corten-A.A242 could be more corrosion resistent than A588 but poor weldablity.i find a material  similar to A588 in China with similar chemical composition and mechanical properties ,but i am still not sure about that  whether the corrosion resistent characteristics of A588 and material in China is close or not. i wonder what's the factor or coefficient to describe the corrosion resistent characteristics, for example a figure showing that the A588 could resist corrosion in 10 or more years.

it really help, thanks for your help with this

The corrosion resistance comes from an addition of copper to the material. The material is resistant to corrosion because of oxidation.

This type of steel is sometimes referred to as weathring steel.
