Set the range selector high so the fine current adjustment will be near zero for the desired amperage. This will provide a low open circuit voltage arc which provides a digging/forceful arc. When the range selector is low and the fine current adjustment is near maximum the open circuit will be highest. This is a good setting for the XX18s. Measure the open circuit voltage and verify the high and low.

not sure about 8010's, but with 1/8 6010's  I'll run in the 190 range and between 40-50 on the fine adj.
