Hi there,

I'm new to this forum. Has anybody perform a procedure qualifications using SA 335, P91 to SA 106 Gr B before? I'd received feedback from the past to use pup piece of P22 to P91. P91 to P1 is not suitable to be welded for the reason due to vast difference of chemical analysis/properties of the two different base metal.
However, I would be glad to hear if anybody has done this procedure before.
Regards,
Lee..

The biggest problem with that dissimilar is heat treat. You need either a transition piece or you need to butter. Carbon steel transformation temp is about 1340F so you have to cook it well below that to make sure you don't end up with an unrelieved microstructure upon cooling. Grade 91 won't even respond to temps that low.
