There is a discussion about strength degradation of welded 6061-T6 in the Technical Forum. It is entitled "Heat Affected Zone Degradation".  If anyone here is fully knowledgable about weld affects on aluminum, please visit that post and clear up some mystery.
Thankyou

What do you need to know? The 6XXX series Aluminum alloys are heat treatable by a phenomenon called precipitation hardening. Once the precipitates have formed from the original heat treatment any exposure to heat will either cause the precipitaes to disappear completely if the heat input is too great or the precipitates will become larger, thus loosing the effectiveness to strengthen the aluminum alloy.
