Up Topic Welding Industry / Processes / Does D17.1 have braze spec?
- - By BBeck001 Date 04-22-2008 23:28
I'm updating my resume and trying to find out if im certified by company or D17.1. AMS 4772 BAg 13 and I think BAg 24? Don't know AMS. Is AMS and BAg two differnt standards to classify wire compositions?

Thanks for your help!

BAg is the AWS filler metal classification.  It is not a braze cert.  The braze cert could be to one of several AMS specs or even to a MIL spec.  You really don't know unless you look at a print for the items you are making.  Even if you try to go to a different employer, the cert requirements may be different.  The only way what you are trying to do would apply would be if you are attempting to move to a competitor in the same business.  You are probably better off putting something like:  certified for torch silver brazing; or vacuum brazing furnace operator, etc...D17.1 is a welding spec and does not cover brazing.  The applicable MIL spec used to be MIL-7883, which has been replaced by AWS C3.6.

If it's any help, according to the SAE AMS Index that I have (Jan. 2001) AMS4772J covers "Silver Alloy, Brazing Metal 54Ag 40Cu 5.0Zn 1.0Ni  1325 to 1575 deg. F Solidus-Liquidus Range.
The UNS NUmber is P07540.  The Alloy is BAg-13 and they cross-it to AWS5.8, Class BAg-13.
