UM indicates the vessel is categorized as a "miniature" unfired pressure vessel. That category has to fit the parameters of the miniature classification which has to do with the total volume of the vessel and it has "relaxed" inspection requirements.

HAS THE UM STAMPED VESSELS ARE EXEMPTED FROM INSPECTION BY AUTHORISED INSPECTOR? ONLY THE CAPACITY/VOLUME IS THE ONLY DIFFERENTIATING CRITERIA? WHICH PART OF ASME SEC 8 EXPLAINS THIS?

U-1(j) describes those vessels that are exempt from inspection (versus examinations performed by the fabricator).

includes:
- vessels 5 cu ft or smaller and not subject to pressures more than 250 psi,
- vessels 3 cu ft or smaller and not subject to pressures more than 350 psi, or
- vessels 1.5 cu ft or smaller and not subject to pressures more than 600 psi.

Best regards - Al
