Hi im curently testing for bsen287 coding on 6g posisition on 4 in carbon steel piping and am having problems with lack of fusion start at the start stop can you pros give me any advice im using 3/32 6011 fleet rods for root with 3mm gap and 2 mm landing edge, rest of the runs are good capping with 7018s and the slag is falling off etc, and the inside of the pipe looks like a stack of dimes with the slag peeling off, just the start stops causing problems

sometimes you can preheat the restart by striking the arc a half inch before the keyhole on the root bead and hold a long arc and move it about an inch before and an inch beyond where you want to start welding.  if it looks like small globs of steel are sticking in the gap then you need to hold a slightly longer arc.  that always seemed to help me when i was having problems on the restart.
