Around 100 amps and feel for it from there.
Hard to say what "gear" without knowing exactly what machine you are referring to. If an sa200 for example, it will depend on weather you are welding flat or vert or other. On a machine with "gears" you can obtain the same amps at different volts for different applications. I may be wrong, (thought I was once till I found out I was mistaken) but I believe it is high volts for flat and low volts for vertical. I can never remember that till I try it. On a dual control machine the fine adjustment is a percentile of the course setting max. so you can obtain the same amps in more than one "gear".

yea on a shop machine i run 1/8th at 105   the machinee im using is a 250d  i really havent understood the fine tuning yet  so where on the main control say it says 80 to 120  then 50 on the fine tune would be 100 amps   fine tune is a percentage of the other control? and not the bottom number and fine tune is added to the bottom number   everyone has been telling me these machines run alot colder than a shop machine   please help anyone that has any advise or input on this

so third gear would be high volts for flat  and 2nd gear low volts for vert and overhead

Yes it sounds near to where i run my 250d at for 1/8 lh vertical position.  I have always tried to keep it up higher on the fine current because it seems to allow a bit better performance with my machine.
