Hello, I am planning on welding up some tube bumpers for my truck, and I want to use cromoly over steel, but I only have a gas welder. I was wondering if you can fusion weld cromoly using oxy fuel welding process? (Not brazing, I dont want the gold look)
If so, what type of filler rod should I use? What about pre/post heating the metal?
Thanks

In general chromemoly steels weld very well with a torch. My experience is mostly with 4130. I use a ER70-S2 rod and just enough preheat to dry it out. If you have torch welded before you will have no problems. Scott.
