Need a little help. We are welding 1inch thich 5083 alm to.500 thick.
Here is our settings:GMAW Process/filler rod ER5356 .047 dia./28 volts /600 ipm wire feed rate/100% Argon shielding gas/ 5/8 cup size/45cfh. We are wire brushing each pass. We are getting average results. Are we missing something?

DEAR 1FAST GUY,

AVERAGE RESULT MEANS WHAT? POOR WELD BEAD FINISH?  HAIRLINE CRACK?  OR PRODUCTION NOT UPTO YOUR TARGET?

What size weld are you trying to achieve with that .047 wire dia?  You might want to make the jump to .062 for better arc characteristics and current carrying capability.  What machine are you using and are you using a push pull gun?  A Argon/helium mix would most deffinetly give you better results, but it's more expensive.  Good results can however be achieved with pure Argon.

What Kix said, plus pre-heat to 150*f. I would also be interested in seeing pics of where you're at so far.
