IVE GOT A 99 POWERSTROKE.WHATS THE BEST CHIP TO GET FOR BETTER MILEAGE. THX
Parent - - By welder_Bob (**) Date 06-20-2008 02:06
I average about 19mpg out of mine, 1999.5 SRW F350 4x4 6 speed,  as long as I stay between 75-80 over 80 and my mileage drops sharply.  All the chips I know of are for power and I never had a need for more power.  Here is a forum for diesel engines.  Hope it helps.

Did you just get the truck?

Seems to me they all claim to give better mileage due to not needing as much thottle to do any particular thing. trouble is its hard to not give it the throttle anyway. My buddy has the edge w/ attitude on his powerstroke. It will certainly haul butt on the upper levels. But he says he gets worse mileage in "economy" mode than in stock mode. May just be his truck, I dunno. Put a superchips on my 07 powerstroke just to help the beast get out in traffic pulling my travel trailer. I try to ignore the mileage. I readily admit that is a most difficult chore!

I have an 03 dodge HO 6 speed 4 x 4, if i keep my foot out of it and stay between 65-70, it will get 22 miles to the gallon, with NO chip

If I was to chip a '99, though, I would give serious thought to the Hypertech programmer. Check em out on the web.

Try the Bullydog switch on the fly six position chip I have one on my 02 powerstroke turn it all the way up and watch that black smoke fly!! But like said before about all the chips CLAIM to give you better milage in the economy stage but I dont think so.

I know Im a little late hitting this thread again. I would just like to know if any of these high mpg claims include a rigged out truck. If any of you DODGE GUYS ARE GETTING 20 mpg RIGGED, I need a different truck. Would love to know!

Ihave a 03 2500 dodge 4x4 6 speed, with a vantage 300, and tools in the bed, getting about 18 to 20 with no chip. But building a bed for my 99 F450 CREW CAB fuel mileage goin down hill on that one

I have had 3 new body dodge's and now a chevrolet and it didn't matter with a chip on any of them. They did perform better loaded with a chip but mileage difference was negligible. It also did not make a difference whether I drove 55 or 75 they got just about the same as without the chip. As for mileage, best I ever got out of a crew cab 4x4 dodge dually was about 17 by the calculator, the readout would often say 22-24 but wasn't right, kinda like the salesman, full of S++T. My 06 chevy Crew Cab Duramax 4x4 gets about the same. All 4 loaded down with welder and tools were in the 15.5 to 16 range on average.

rick,,,check this out,,,if your gonna do it,,,do it in a dodge,,,haha, long time no see.  but really get a dodge but not a 6.7,,youll really hate the gas mileage,,,as for the rest of you guys, chips do help,,theyre expensive but they do help.  heres the low down on my rig.  its a single cab black 03 six speed H.O. with a smarty chip, tst powermax on the fly with cooldown timer, 150 gallon per hour fuel pump, industrial injection injection pump, 550hp southbend clutch, ARP head studs, afe stage 2 intake with 6 inch inlet down to 4 inch, straight 4 inch exhaust,, 90hp dynomite diesel injectors,, dual feed line,, and to top it all off an ATS three part manifold with a phat shaft 66 turbo pullin 60 lbs of boost,,and 33 inch tires.  now then my truck also weighed in at the scales at 10,865lbs.  i know cause i got a fat ticket. i do also sled pull with this truck on occasion.  i average 500 to 600 miles a tank on 30 gallons with a calculator,,do the math. and yes that is with a rig.  granted it did cost me a lot of money for all that but i wanted it for other reasons,,,at the time fuel mileage wasnt an issue,,but it sure is a nice bonus

My 03 dodoge 2500 crew cab 4x4 gets roughly 20 mpg on highway, 30 gallon tank, do the math. Give or take a little I can 500+ miles out of a tank no chip, totally stock
