I know we have a bunch of knowledgeable people on here, and this is a thing I've seen on quite a few machines over the years, so somebody must know what's going on.

When burning 5P type rods, the arc will cut out for a split second and start up again.

It burns 7018 just fine, no cutting out.

I tried cleaning the armature with a stone, didn't do any good. The brushes all seem to be working and seated right.

Anybody?

what temp are u running ?what size of rod ? did it just start doing this or has it always done it? it's happen to me but i was running to cold

Don't think it's a temp issue, just running at the normal amps you would need to run a root bead or put on a downhill cap. The machine sat in storage for a year and a half, so never got used that whole time. It was welding fine before I had to put it in storage.

Are they new 5P rods?    The rods could be your problem if 7018 are running fine.

no, they are pretty old rods...

I bought a box of 3/16 70+ a mth ago & i thought i had forgotten how to weld it was a bad box or rod s were very old , but @ the same time exciter blew out & i thought it was that ,but once fixed ran the same rods & still no change $110.00 down the drain

That's an interesting question. I have a Trailblazer Pro 350 with a Kubota diesel and it does the same thing, only with 6010 and 6010+ rods. It does everything else great. 7018, GTAW, GMAW, FCAW, Aluminum.

It has always done that even with rods right out of the box.

It's not enough to affect the quality but enough to aggravate you.

Somebody has to know what this is. I asked another welder at work about it, he said he didn't know, but his machine does the same thing.

HI I own a bobcat 225, trailblazer 250 and classic II and the trailblazer 250 is the only one doing that on 5p and 5p+ at any temp. or size, I asked the tec. on ready-arc shop and  they recived more and more ?s about it but they don't no way is that, is the firts time I hear about a 300D doing it.

I have a 1997 classic 1, the other day i was rootin some 12in and the 5p+ lost arc for a slit second first time its ever happened on this machine. but ive not had it very long but done several joints with it. only has 760hrs on the machine i've used other welders that has done this so i would also like to know what causes this also?

Well, it seems to be pretty common, surely somebody knows what it is.
Parent - By texasrigwelder (**) Date 07-22-2008 00:47
it could be millions of things happening

I can't believe that somebody aint come up with an explanation yet? its only happend to me one time so far i thought it was my heat or the rod?
