Been out on the place that happened but I'm glad I wasn't there then.

That's a Patterson rig.
Parent - - By snuffman (***) Date 07-21-2008 00:37
Did you take that pic? The reason I ask is Ive seen that pic about 10 times and each time get a different story.
Parent - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-21-2008 00:59 Edited 07-21-2008 01:02
No I didnt take it. It was Handed out at a pushers meeting and I took it to CVS had it put on a disk and Presto    Here it is. I dont know what stories are floating around I only was told only one by the Pusher. I also had it made into a picture that is Poster size and it is hanging in my Living room. Whatever the story really is, It's is still a BAD A** picture
Parent - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-21-2008 01:05
The original picture I saw had a time and date stamp on it. I had it edited out because I was hanging it for display. The lady that edited it for me at CVS said I could sell the picture but I didnt take it so I didnt bother. I figured it was floating around somewhere

I have seen things like this a thousand times but have NEVER been lucky enough to catch it on film.

That is bad a** brother. :-)

I would love to have one as you describe on my wall as well. BIG

man that is scary
Parent - - By ZCat (***) Date 07-21-2008 05:10
looks fake to me, where's all the debris flying around the bottom of the twister?

they do some pretty convincing stuff with photoshop these days...
Parent - - By pypLynr (***) Date 07-21-2008 12:29
I hate to bust ya'lls bubbles ,but this here picture is fabricated. It has been photo-shopped and the twister has been imported into the pic. The rig and the lightning is real and the twister is real also but not in this pic at this time. No debris or cows are flying around... if it was real , can you imagine the look on the tool pushers' face looking out the cabin... " OH  SH*T" ... haha
Parent - - By Metarinka (****) Date 07-21-2008 15:36
I would be less quick to dismiss it as a photoshop due to the lack of debris.  As a photoshopper myself if this was chopped someone is either very patient or very skilled because that lightning is highlighting the tornado very realistically. Real or not that's a crazy photo wouldn't want to be there!

I've never seen ligthning strike that close to a twister, then again I've only seen a few twisters up here in Michigan.

What do oil rigs do during hurricanes? I know they are designed to withstand them but what about the unfortunate souls left on the rig.
Parent - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 07-21-2008 17:52
Land Rigs Usually can take the hurricane but if it is going to be a direct hit they will abandon the rig. Offshore rigs will abandon the rig

That movie with all the debris and flying cows aired last month on HBO

Sweet! All I can say! SWEET!!
Parent - By texwelder (***) Date 07-21-2008 18:32
People that pic was taken in west texas, the cows there are 1 to a thousand acres, there is a good chance there were no cows around, maybe a lizard or two, and one tumble weed.

Actually it was taken in Florida in 2001. The rig was added later on.

You can buy it in poster form here.

Cactus,
I never got your e-mail. I tried to copy it from the link but for some reason it will not work for my desktop.

And yes even if it is doctored up, it is still cool. Especially when one has been out there to witness something like this.
