I'd like to hear some comments on repairing base metal (A36) and the effects of repairing A 2" plate numerous times. (welds and repairs are E71T1 wire, 100%Co2)

The reason I ask, we have a large positioner with a 12' table and it gets dogs welded on and scarfed off and the plate is repaired then goes through the cycle again! this happens on average 12-15 times a year!

It would seem to me that welding on a plate many times would eventually have adverse affects on the steel. if anyone has any links or comments on this it would be appreciated!

I would expect that after enough of these cycles that the surface would become dished from each weld contracting as it cools.
