You think I'd get on with a pipeline if I showed up with this rig??  http://cgi.ebay.com/Lincoln-welder-welding-rig_W0QQitemZ230277795896QQihZ013QQcategoryZ113743QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I have been on pipeline and rig jobs that you would need a 4x4 like that to get you there and back.  So I don't see why not.

Chris,
That's a pretty slick truck. You should see the mobile welding rigs they're building at the U.S. Army Arsenal near my house. They're being shipped out to Iraq, and we were not allowed to get up close too them. They have them all staged inside a secure perimeter fence. From my vantage point i could see that they are pull behind rigs, but they have a complete covering that when pulled up produces a nice canopy with a slide out welding table, gas cylinders, huge spools for gas hose and cables. I was told by one employee over there that they are for rough terain and have all the capabilites of an entire welding shop.

There was an artical with some pictures of those in an AWS Journal with in the last 2 years. Sorry I can't be more specfic on the date. They were Blue machines.

You are correct about the Machines they put in them. When i was taking a course over at the Arsenal post, they Had them lined up on pallets inside the manufacturing building.
