CAN ANYBODY HELP ME HOW TO READ FIG UCS 66 OF ASME SEC VIII DIV 1 ( IMPACT TEST EXEMPTION CURVES). FOR ONE VESSEL THE MDMT IS -29 DEG C AND THE MATERIAL IS A516 GR 70 THICKNESS IS 45 MM AND ANOTHER ONE SAME MATERIAL AND MDMT (-29 DEG C) BUT THE THICKNESS IS 12MM. HAVE THE WPS IS REQUIRED TO BE QUALIFIED WITH IMPACT TESTS?

If I remember correctly, the lowest anticipated service temperature on the vertical axis, the material thickness is the horizontal axis, and the curves, A, B, C and D are the factors that have to be considered. If your material is grouped as a B material, and the temperature and thickness plot above curve B, you do not have to do impact testing. If the plot of temperature and thickness fall below curve B, you do have to perform impact testing.
