Can someone advise when a welding map is required on a product drawing, what information and how is it normally provided.
Should symbols be shown, type of process as well as WPS be stated on the drawing?

Usually on piping systems with an operating pressure >0.5 bar full traceability is required(in europe)

In my experience its mostly done on a separate weld log.

The weld log has information on: Unique joint number which refer to the fabrication drawing, Welder ID, WPS(rarely also PQR), charge No. for both material and filler wire, date of welding, NDT performed, Visual acceptence/rejection, shop or field weld, welding process, PWHT(in some cases also Hydrogen diffusion) and hydrotest result.

However it does vary alot, depending on the client spec.

The philosophy is....when, who and how is it welded and where is it located.

What are you welding on?
Most pressure systems/New Repair, vessels/New Repair and tanks, Nw/Repair require a weld map.
