My brother took his SA-200 in and had it converted 3 years ago and loves it.  It only uses about 3-4 gallons a day.  He went to American Welding Supply in Groves, Texas and I think the bill was around 6K but don't quote me.  They also sell a Pipeline special http://www.americanweldingsupply.com/specials.php
Hybriweld priced me a Yanmar conversion kit for around 5800.00 plus freight about a 1-1/2 ago.  They also sell Fowler Mainliner for 12,900.00.  http://www.hybriweld.com/shopexd.asp?id=181 .  I think it would be cool to have an old shorthood with a Yanmar in it.

im thinking about converting my machine, but my gas motor is practically new thats why id hate to swap it out. in the long run its going to save money. id like to try a fowler machine out for a couple weeks that has arc force kit and 7 selector coils, and there exciter coils to see the difference or talk with someone that has bought one. talked with one guy he said that if you already have a good machine the cost would be less they look bad a**!!

i spoke with one of there techs and he said that the arcforce replaces the regular shunt's in your machine from the way i took it gives you more heat ranges, for instance your selctor switch has 5 pos. it adds 5 heat ranges to each position so you got a total of 25 heat ranges sounds like a good upgrade to me. just thank if you put there 7 selector coils in you would have 35 heat ranges. you couldnt go wrong, the way he explained  it to me you would have softer arc 0,1,2,3 being normal,4,5 being stiffer arc.

i would have to use a machine with the arcforce kit installed to see how much of a difference it really makes before i would buy that setup . its the same princepal as the ocv dial on the newer pipeliners, you can make the arc softer or stiffer but without having to adjust the rpm's

Steve, is that Yanmar a natural or a turbo? I would stick with the natural. What is the engine displacement?
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 09-08-2008 11:56
I'm not all too sure, I believe it is non turbo. I'll check displacement. It's around 42 HP or in that neighborhood, I believe. S.W.

You need to be able to make at least 20 HP at 1500 rpm. The power curve chart might not even show that low RPM. Another way to check the power output is to find specs for a 50 HZ 4 pole generator aplication of this engine [that will be at 1500 RPM], it should be at least 10 KW generator output.
