What wire do I use to GMAW weld 3/8 ASTM Type 301 to 3/8 ASTM A36?

Type 301 S/Steel is similar to 304H. The main differences being that the C content is not controlled, but can be higher (up to 0.15%) and the Ni and Cr contents are on average one percentage point lower. The mechanical properties are also the same.

The filler wire will therefore be the same as performing most 18/8 Austenitic S/Steel to C/Steel welds. (Type 309 filler)

If I was you, my concern will not be so much with the type of filler as with ensuring you do not get sensitization.

Hope this helps
