Big and beautiful, gold outside and blue color on the face plate. Two big removable panels on each side. Windings are bigger than a keg around and longer too!!! this old hobart has no tag. Has a dcvolts and amp meter with switch, two 120v plugs, set up for two leads willys straight 4 ( got it running in an hour, smooth little engine!!) has hand written numbers on the amp selector. Looks kind of like the old 300amp(gr303?) ones but this has connectors for two leads. Checked around for pix on line and the only ones that are close are the gr303 .Any ideas???? I have the motor running great but no weld or ac power. cleaned the brushes( all 12- 4taps of three brushes each) but still getting no weld or ac. Are these machines worth the trouble? Any help would be appreciated.   This thing is very big and heavy! Not sure how to get pix on here if someone knows how please pass the info along.

Wish I could help you. I have a early 70's Mega Arc that looks similar to this machine.

No ac is troubling. If it weren't for that I would say your exciter isn't getting real excited, or your armature is bad.

Sounds simpler tho........................that's all I can say.

Your machine is newer than the ones I have literature on, probably from the '60s-'70s. from the older info I have, Hobart used the Willies engines on 200 & 250 amp machines. The 300 amp machines used a 6 cylinder.

Edit: I found some slightly later [12/59] info with a Willies engine on a 350 amp CV "Micro-wire" unit. This unit is before the blue face plate also.

Could it be the field shunts?
