If a welder is certified under D1.1 for FCAW with .045 dia. fluxcore wire.
Does this certification also cover him for GMAW .035 dia. wire?
(Note: Reference D1.1 Table 4.5 Number 3 & 10 and note 1)

they are two different processes. two different qualification tests need to be done.

I believe if you were qualifying welders to B2.1 you would be ok (3.6.1.1 & 3.6.1.2) but since you mentioned D1.1 you would need to qualify for each process! If your welders were already qualified to B2.1 you could get an engineer approval to use the FCAW-G for GMAW (considering your only using GMAW pulsed,spray or globular and FCAW-gas) D1.1  4.1.1.2
