Anyone know anything about SA-250? A friend of mine said he found one with 7500 hrs or so for $3500. Good or bad? Any help would be appreciated. I know the SA-200 are a good machine, but just asking seems like a lot of hrs to me.

I have a gas job SA-250 it has a little more grunt than my SA-200 and AC power to boot. All in all a good rig.

i have a sa-250-d3-152 code#8305-nc serial#a-923333 it is dc only, it has no hour meter on it, it has a 3 cyl. perkins engine. i have had it for 4 years now it is a good machine, it has been well maintaned. i was wanting to no the year model and about how much it is worth. it welds real well and starts well, i no longer use it i bought a new vantage 300. it has no side doors and it is painted camo. thanks for any help.

It should be a 1980.
Most everybody liked how those early 80's 250's with the 3 cyl perkins welded on downhill pipe.
So much so that Chris in Odessa puts 1982 coils in late model Classic 3D's to settle them down. A friend of mine has a '98 with those coils and it welds much nicer than it did in it's first life.

bottom of the page. They are available several places on the net now. When I origanally scanned that old paper and posted it it wasn't commonly available.

I have a 97 sa-250 with three cyc. perkins about 3500 hrs on it, they are good machines, I believe it is easier on fuel, than my 07 vantage 300, but not real sure, the only things I dont like about the sa-250 is the weight and the vibration of the three cyc. engine.

Hello texwelder, I don't know how extensive this vibration that you are speaking of is, however the 3 cylinder perkins have a counter-rotating shaft in the bottom end to counteract the difference in balance due to having an odd number of cylinders and an unequally weighted crankshaft. Has the bottom end of the engine ever been apart and has it always had the vibration? There is a slim possibility that an excessive amount of vibration could be coming from the incorrect timing of this counter-rotating shaft. If it isn't excessive I wouldn't be too concerned, if you ever have it apart I would certainly include an inspection of the counter-shaft timing. Just a little something to consider if you suspect anything is really wrong. Best regards, aevald

Its not ever been apart, and its not a concern, I've used several other sa-250 and they were all the same, I'm just comparing it to my new Vantage 300 with the 4 cyl. kubota engine, very smooth and not near as loud.

Hello texwelder, understand and that makes sense. Best regards, Allan
