Well, was looking, sheet metal wise at least, to build the thing for $500 or less, guess I'm dreaming. I remember about 6 months a 1/4 4x8 was around $200 at the steel yard, I could be mistaken though.
from what i have seen in the last six months there has been about a 20% price increase across the board. even more in some places. it's like anything else, it won't go down very much. rather hope it plains out, which it seems to be doing.

You are definately mistaken!
You could build a 3x2' box for 500.
Do your homework, and you just might decide to build your bed out of wood.
