This is what I have.
Material: SA36
Gage: 1 3/4"
Joint: V-groove both sides
Depth of prep:1/2" both sides 60 degree included angle
Wire: EM12K (Lincoln L50)
Flux: F7A2 (Lincoln 980)
Amps: 1150
Volts: 40
Travel:12 ipm
We are getting a full penetration weld by running a single pass on each side with no second side gouging. A few things we are seeing in production is the bead narrows @ the run off tabs. Why is this happing?  Also, when we are making the weld we are seeing a flux pop. I'm not sure how to describe this but what we are seeing is molten flux popping ahead of the flux bed. This doesn't appear to be affecting the appearance or quality of the weld.

What size wire is being used? Your parameters seem rather high, regardless.

1150 amps?
Check the current carrying capacity of the flux.
Have you done any backgouging and Mags to confirm full pen?
3/4" root face is huge.

sorry, wire size is 3/16" and we have been cutting samples from the run off tabs and etching to confirm full penetration along with spot ut inspection on the production joints

also no backgouging is being done

The poping would most likely be gases escaping.

Are the run off tabs V-grooved or flat?
