Hello elvenwelder, first off welcome, there is a host of experience, expertise, and information at your disposal on this site. If you look through some of the other topic areas you will likely find all sorts of things that could help to answer your questions. This will certainly take some effort on your part and a "LOT" of reading. Under testing and certification you may find questions that others have asked in the quest for learning with regard to setting-up, learning techniques, taking, and passing specific welding certifications, but you'll have to skim through quite a bit of it in the process. Under "tricks of the trade" you will probably find a bunch of informational and practical tips for approaching and accomplishing a number of different tasks associated with repair, fabrication, fitting, and other items that could be helpful at various times in your career. All of the topic areas may contain items that could relate to your questions and desire to better educate yourself so prepare to dedicate some time and effort to look through all of these various areas. In the "search" function part of the forum use this to narrow the choices, topics, and areas to look for specific items. If you have a question on rod identification, type it into the search window as such and look to see what comes up. If nothing shows up try typing the same topic or question in a different manner, it is likely that you will receive some sort of response. Good luck and stay tuned. Best regards, aevald

Elvenwelder,

Read as much as you can, listen to any old timer you can, stay behind the hood much as you can. Be as observant about what you're laying down there, and ask why things are the way they are to anyone that will answer your questions as long as they will answer without getting annoyed with you. Be analytical, and be picky about your work. Be professional even at school.

Ask more specific questions. Nothing will make you learn all you want to know as fast as you want to learn it, trust me. Just keep plugging away anyway.

Welcome!!

Jenn
