"It's OK to remove the guard from an angle grinder if the guard presents more of a hazard when in place I.E., grinding inside a small diameter pipe with a 4.5" wheel or wire wheel."  Is this an old wives tale or can someone cite from OSHA stating that it's OK to do this. Any documented info would be appreciated. Thanks- Ted

TRC,
I think that 1910.215 (a) (1) (i) is what you are refering to.

I think it is covered somewhere else briefly as well, but I am unable to find it at this moment. If this is not what you are looking for let me know, and I will see if I can find the other referance as well.

Lawrence,
Nice job, you beat me to the second referance.

TRC,
This is the other one I was refering too. :-)

Not often a big fan of OSHA

However, the grinder safety section is impressive, logical and pretty well detailed in my opinion.

Seriously I can't thank you enough for finding this for me. Not so serious, if you know where the paragraph is that states that a guard isn't necessary when grinding root beads on large diameter pipe is please let me know that as well. Thanks- Ted
