Jet rod on tank bottoms. Brings back some bad memories. It looks like they may be building a new tank with all the light. The rod is 7/16 i beleive

Oh yeah I remember those days, before wire feeders came out. I'd buy them boys a little cart to set / roll around on. Get them off that cold steel, could be a health issue latter on in their lives!
They running AC on that big of rod? That's what we were told in school, for the really big stuff. I guess the arc blow in DC gets pretty bad on that large diameter rod.

On this picture you can see the flux starting to curl up. This is using standard 18 inch jet rod.

Nope, contractor is out of Tulsa and I work for the owner as 3rd party inspector.

When I was a young cocky lad, I took a moon light job welding inside of a cylinder (36") used for molding toy cars for kids (power wheels) 22 hours later when I finally climbed out of that #$%^&&***, tube I decided from that day on that I wanted to be on the outside of the tubes.
I guess that dude never has to worry about accidentally hopping into his truck and ripping the seat cover cause he has a few rods still in his back pocket.
I'm pretty sure he doesn't "bend every rod" either.

We did some demo with 3/8" carbons. That's the biggest I have gotten a chance to run so far. That looks a lot bigger 'N badder than anything I've gotten an opportunity to do yet! Neat stuff!!
One heck of a spark show. It looked quite more than that size of a carbon.

Brings back great memories of the "Do or die for CB&*" days. 1) Wear out a 4# beater a day, 2) Great way to get into shape..fast. 3) 8 hour shift does not drag...first thing you know at 7:00am your running around in circles with a bucket of bull pins in one hand and keeper plates in the other, next your slammin' down cold ones with the gang to wash down the smoke, dust and rust.
That feller will get shirt with a tail when a glob rolls down thru the crack, he squirms, then it makes it's way on down to his cousins or to the tip of the Florida peninsula...if you catch my drift.
Sun burnt knees ain't no fun the next day...They'll be buying some San Francisco Dinner Slippers before that floor's done or next job for sure.

I used some of that 7024 years ago on some 36" beams with a 1 1/2 flange on them. It was nice watching that charcoal looking slag just curling up behind you...

Those pics are awesome thankyou for posting them. It makes me appreciate where I came from when I made 7.25 starting out and topped out at 9.50hr a year and a half later. ( While I struggled for fuel money wk by wk going to welding school in 2000.) Sometimes I wish I could go back to those same guys and work along side them, not because I would want to but to show those guys that where they were wrong. Those same guys used to tell me. "I don't know why your going to school this is as far in the welding industry as you will ever be." If those welders thats been there 15yrs making 14 an hr could see me now.
thats funny I heard the same thing...."I'll teach you everything you need to know right here alot cheaper than school" I think you made it to $20 hr after 5 years at that job.
No jobs around here to make $15 on let alone more. You guys got it good. Lancaster, Ohio
