I have a 90's model clasic one. It has the OHV motor but has a smooth round generator barrel the same as my red face. I have replaced the armature bearing in both machines and I can't tell a diference between the two. They both weld very good you could switch leads and never tell which was which. I just wanted to know if this was a common machine because I looked at a Clasic one on the for sale page that is nothing like mine.

It depends on the year model of the classic 1 some had hexagonal and some had the original fjw round barrel like the red faces. I have a 1997 classic 1 TM27 engine it has a round barrel, im not sure about when they swaped to the hexagon barrel i think 1993 then a couple years later went back to the original because they didn't perform like the round barrel machines did i know they made sa200s to 1992 then 1993 started calling them classic 1s but the model# still sa200. Ive had my machine next to several different red faces and held my own like you said there is no difference in the machines they both have same generators made the same way.

Lincoln changed from the classic 1s to the pipeliner 200g-200d models 2000-2001, i think thats the year. Then they had alot of trouble with the pipeliner 200g the engines were crap they had GM motors in them so they went with the 200d

GM makes, or made a good 4 cyl. engine that is used on the Mercruiser I/O systems. It is based on the old Chevy II engine from the early '60s that was later called the "Iron Duke" and use in late model Vega's after the aluminum block proved to be crap. I don't know how good this engine is whith electronics & computers controlling it. I wonder if this is the engine they used.

Don't know the model number but I believe it was a 3.0 liter GM engine

If it is a pushrod engine, it is probably the same one Mercury Marine is using.
