Hello All,

I'm writing a PQR, BPS, and Qualification for a new part.  The process is torch brazing using oxygen/acetylene gases.  The filler metal is silver solder with black flux.

The PQR requires the identification of the atmosphere, listed in Appendix E.  The choices seem to be for those of a controlled atmosphere, such as furnace brazing, where an enclosed system is used.  Item 9 seems to be my best choice, "Purified Inert Gas."  I'm confused.

Again, I'm brazing a bracket to a tube with basic torches in a job shop.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I don't know anything about the paperwork, but the torch flame gives an atmosphere of mostly CO, CO2 and water vapor. Not pure or inert.

Try appendix F with your filler metal classification. Example- BCuP is flux or fluxless;  BCu and BVCu requires a brazing atmosphere. Hope that helps
