Up Topic Welding Industry / Welding Fundamentals / Jig for H braces?

I have to make quiet a few H Braces and instead of the normal laying the pipe out and measuring repeatedly deal I was gunna fab up a jig. I was think an H made out of angle iron to simply lie the pipe in and weld. Anyone have any other ideas?

If You have a steel plate table You can tack angle iron scraps to it to position the pipes. For cheap & dirty low volume jobs You can nail blocks of wood to a sheet of plywood.

i just build them in place the ground is not always level and the fence looks better when you go with the contour of the land

What Texasrigwelder said is easy and wastes very little, only the pegs or straps.  It is the way we build most of our jigs.

Pretty much what I ended up doing. Welded some 2" tall pipe pieces around one of the braces, pulled it out and now I just slap the metal in and weld it up. Works pretty good. Think I may not have it snug enough as the legs still pull a little, about 1/4" on the top or bottom.

Remember, even though you are using a jig, you still need to control the "pulling" by properly tacking the pieces before welding them up.
