It is a shame they've been discontinued.
All I can think of is that there must have been some safety issue and resultant fear of lawsuits.
Two years ago, I mentioned to a welder on the site,  I had a #11 that I kept around for FCAW. Faster than a crack head could whip a pipe, he handed me $150 and said bring it in tomorrow. When I declined his offer...BAM! he pulled out another $50.
I took the $200 drug-up and went to the nearest "gin mill". No! But, I know welders that would gladly pay $50 a piece, myself included if they were to re-tool the line and start making them again.

Turned out, it was in another tool box at my ex's house. Her # is 8675-30999 ask for "Jenny"

Superflux when did you use weld cool lenses from American Optical  When I used them back in the 60, 70, they only made shade 10 and 12,  I didn't ever see any shade 11.  I still have a shade 10 now.  It seams to me that their shades run a bit lighter than other  brands.

The lens was purchased back in 1975 when I was running FCAW for Armco. As you mentioned it probably was a 12 but I remrmber it WAS lighter than other 12s. And yes it did end up getting garage saled. Ex (#2) held it on the day of my daughter's college graduation just to make sure I did not attend. Forgive my nebulous memory, that was a lot of years and fried brain cells ago!

I've heard a number of rumors as to why they are no longer made,  from a lack of cobalt (for the blue) to the company going out of business.  I never had one but I welded with one a couple of times and I'd like one if I could find it.  I was afraid to start using them because I figured I'd have to have one to weld so I stuck with the cheapies.

Yeah,
Welding/blacksmithing shop, cabinet making shop, and my GUNS!!! I had enough fire power to take over a banana republic and hold off Ruby Ridge simultaneously. Oh well it's all over now. I only hope there's a groto in Haydes reserved for her with child molesters, kitten killers and those who talk in theaters as cavemates!
Anyway I've done some re-tooling and you oughta see my new S&W XVR 460 MAG with 2x-8x Nikon scope, Browning HP .40 Trijicon sights ...etc,etc,etc,etc,......

I've welded with a red it was weird I was so use to the green but I think maybe the red was a better color. I tried the AO safety cool blue I didn't use it long enough to get use to it but it did seem to be a little better.. everytime I got to the welding store I forget to pick one up to try it out for a while to see if I like it.
