Between the machine and the cab we have to keep our machines forward so we can get to our fifth wheel hitches.

Look at my post with the trailer. Here's another shot of it. For ME, this was the best solution. Everyone has different needs & circumstances though. Trailers are inexpensive to build & usually, the best way is to get a built one used & modify it to fit your needs.

Good luck. Steve.

Pretty rigs! Serious, nice setups! S.W.
Parent - - By Johnyutah (**) Date 12-04-2008 04:17
Steve was it you that had the trick trailers if so you should look at those to Tamper I would prefer a skid myself if you don't want to tie up your truck all the time. But a trailer mounted rig works if the terrain permits and you don't have to haul steel with you. However if price is an issue going tub welding is the cheapest way.

I appreciate that! :-)

Like you said, if you don't have the money, or work to support a second vehicle dedicated to welding, go with a trailer or tub rig using a skid. I guess it all depends on what you are doing & if you have the equipment to take a skid out of a truck. I didn't, so I went with a little trailer. It worked out good for me.

Heck, I fix & sell more welders than I weld with these days!! :-)

cm truckbeds made a killin off you guys
Parent - - By Johnyutah (**) Date 12-05-2008 02:13
Thats the first CM beds we have bought no time to build one but check out the grey one that kid is only 18 best hand I have right now he built  that bed just told him  to run with it. Probably shouldn't give a young guy that much leash but there is nothing better than a guy who cares about his work and the company.
Parent - - By pipeliner04 (**) Date 12-05-2008 03:19
yea i understand that,,didnt cm actually attempt to build a welding bed,,ive heard a lot about em but never seen one anywhere,,,even the net.
Parent - - By Johnyutah (**) Date 12-05-2008 03:28
Buddy of mine out in Rosevelt said they were going to have one after the first of the year there nice in a pinch gets you going looks good and you can resell them. I'm in the process of building a bed for the white one so I can get my machine lower then I can just put the cm on my run around truck. I have also seen the guys cut the head ache rack off built there bottle racks cut an angle in the back and cut the machine through the deck.
Parent - - By pipeliner04 (**) Date 12-05-2008 03:33

Parent - - By Johnyutah (**) Date 12-05-2008 03:36
I'll have to call him but I also heard that B&W was going to build one I think they would make a sharp bed.
Parent - By pipeliner04 (**) Date 12-05-2008 03:40

Parent - - By Cactusthewelder (*****) Date 12-05-2008 10:58

Parent - By pipeliner04 (**) Date 12-05-2008 14:34

cool im looking to buy an old truck like that.thanks
Parent - - By Black Wolf (**) Date 12-06-2008 22:37
Millerman,

Nice job on both decks.  Slick looking units.  Pictures are a little distorted though compared to other pics of both trucks you have posted previosly.

Nice to see someone using the "older" iron instead of having to drive the newest Whiz Bang 2009 units.

Not saying new isn't nice ( And some members on here have BEAUTIFUL new trucks), but money is tight, and I can't see why I would want the payments.

Thanks,

Have a Good Day.

When they said go big or go home Eric responded looks good man what about milage.
Parent - - By Eric Carroll (**) Date 12-05-2008 05:09
I get around 10 mpg. I dont really baby it so i bet I could get better. Once I put the 22.5" wheels on it the highway mpgs may get better.
Parent - By Johnyutah (**) Date 12-05-2008 05:14
Do you leave it on site and drive a civic to work ouch!
Parent - - By sbcmweb (****) Date 12-05-2008 14:59

Parent - - By Tamper (**) Date 12-05-2008 22:57
Eric when I was working in the strip coal mines, I had a GMC 6500 with an auto crane on it. I like the bigger ones. But I do have one question to all of you guys. I heard that its bad to lay the bottles down, or was I told wrong?
Thanks,
Chris
