Any pointers on how to get a full penetration of the root on saddles or other wise called branch connections using the Mig Process?

Would you recommend saddle in or saddle on?

Most of our saddles go out with nothing more then a fillet weld and at some point I am concerned an inspector is going to call us out on the lack of breaking down the inside.

Any advise/tricks would be appreciated.

PipeIt,
I think a bit more info is required to give a reply to this post.  What is the application for the branch connection and the governing fabrication Code?  As you describe the use of "nothing more than a fillet weld", I would think this can't be an application where high pressure, corrosive or combustible fluids, etc. would be seen.  Looking forward to more info.

The application is tower water to cool machines. Maybe 60# depending on what side of the pump or exchanger we're on.
Governing fabrication code I am not aware of any.

recommend "saddle on" to get full pen. on the beveled ends.  if saddle is in, its more of a t-joint. if that makes sense.
