its the shortest day or longest night of the year! when the sun is at its most angular position in regards to the equator!

When you get whippin and a spirrin and forget where you are and things get a little bit numb, hanggy down parts may get too close to the blaze.

We're in the middle of a New England blizzard.  My flight and many others were cancelled but thankfully I found out before my 3 hour drive to the airport.  8" on the ground now and +8" more expected.  Thermometer is at 7 deg F right now and the wind is about 15 mph and expected to increase.  Yep! It's winter for sure!

But it's not so bad.  Maine has just 2 seasons -winter and mud season - and now mud season is officially over.  And some are having it a lot worse.

Wood burner going, a few beers, and practicing with my USN 58L UT unit (after plowing snow all day!)

Stay warm Chet!

A very funny story.  Many of you know my wife is from New Zealand and when we first got together she had never had a white Christmas.

I brought her to a job I was working in South Korea and don't you know, Christmas eve, no snow :-(

I woke up very early Christmas day and lo and behold!!! there was about 8" on the ground!!!  :-)

She hadn't woke up yet, but I was so happy I was dancing around when her dad rang to wish us a merry Christmas.  He could hear the obvious excitement and asked me what I was so excited about.... to which I blurted "we got about 8" last night!!!".... dead silence for about 10 seconds, then he said "I HOPE your talking about snow!!!" we both laughed our a$$es off as I go woke my Mrs.

Sadly, her dad just died on the 19th, way too young, he was only 8 years older than me.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss, Jon.  I hope your wife and you are coping well.

Thanks Chet.  We're okay.  He was suffering so bad at the end it was actually a blessing when he passed.

I spent my solstice having a very frustrating and expensive experience with our consulates and embassies in Italy.  Am now harboring serious anarchist fantasies, except I don't have the survival skills for that.  ('Swhy I'm a socialist instead.  I need someone else to take care of me cuz I sure as hell can't.)
