Coonbait, If you think you will get a grand for two or even 750 for one ... your crazy as a shi*house rat !  I can't blame you for trying , but good luck !
Parent - - By CoonBait (*) Date 01-11-2009 04:48
Its like an old man once told me while trying to jew him down on a used truck "You see that seat there son. Theres an ass made for it somewhere. If you aint got 7500 then it aint your ass." I have seen the cbs go for 1500 on ebay. The value only increases as time passes.
Parent - - By scrappywelds (***) Date 01-13-2009 00:44
i dont know why everyone wants them. they are nice to weld with , but they dont filter out all the blue light spectrum. thats why they are so clear to see through, they are very bad for your eyes.
Parent - By patg (**) Date 01-13-2009 02:00
in my opinion you are sooo wrong i have been using one of theese lenses scince i started welding and know plenty of old welders that still use them today
they are no worse for you're eyes than any other lense like i said in my opinion
Parent - - By 250-1500 (*) Date 01-13-2009 08:20 Edited 01-14-2009 08:11
ok if you have seen then go for 1500 on ebay why not put it on ebay ?

that is insane. I wish I had like 20 of these original lenses, I'm gonna have to try the ao saftey lense. My welding supply store has them but only in a number 10. I assume a 12 is like an 11
Parent - - By pipehog (**) Date 02-01-2009 19:05

send me a picture of yours if it looks any different I would not sell anyone a plastic lens for 350.00 dollars I feel like this is even to much for an original glass one but oh well supply and demand I guess

The old glass ones are worth money but there's a limit on how much i'll pay for one. You'd just have to weld with the old ones to see the difference between them and the crappy new plastic ones that they sell now. They are not even close in my opinion an a lincoln super-vis lens is just as good as the plastic ones and cost alot less. I wish AO would start makin the glass ones again tho. I'd gladly pay 50 or so if they was the same as the old ones.
Parent - By 250-1500 (*) Date 02-04-2009 10:19
old school check your PM and email
Parent - By tighand430 (***) Date 02-03-2009 07:21
Don't waste your money.  The new AO lenses aren't any better than a regular green lens. Me an some buddies got one so we could try it, they SUCK!
Parent - - By Cumminsguy71 (*****) Date 02-02-2009 05:37
good point and I think I've heard that somewhere! Don't think these cool blues will fit my ass. Wow, the insanity! I'd buy one and the next day the wind would blow my helmet into the path of an on coming truck.....bye bye $35 helmet.....really expensive lens. Gosh, now ya'll got me wondering what it is that makes them this special, just want to look through one while welding to see what the hub bub's about.
Parent - - By Tyler1970 (***) Date 02-02-2009 14:14
WOW! Do you guys know how many of these lens are out there? You may not think alot. but All you have to do is talk to ppl or ask around. My best luck is first of asking the older guys. They are probly more likely to have one, but would be a pricely cost of buying it from them (not 750 for sure, Cheaper). But try asking the older guys first. When I first found out about these lens about 2 years ago, I went nuts asking ppl about them. And the few older guys i asked, yeah most of them had one. But wouldnt give it up, but I did'nt offer them 750! I say give thema good price aroud 300, and you may have you a nice cool blue lens!
Parent - - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 02-02-2009 15:14
for 750 or even 300 my 10.00 shade 10 green lens works just fine and i have lots of back up lenses so if i drop it i'm not out alot of money. I tried the glass gold lens and it cost me 25.00 i used it for about a month and gave it away it almost blinded me
Parent - - By Cumminsguy71 (*****) Date 02-02-2009 16:46
I agree with your logic Shad. I buy the radnor glass #12's, something like $3-4, serves it purpose and if it breaks, oh well. I'd be scared to use the cool blue, to each his own though. Even at $300 it would have to do more than hook in my hood. Still, never used/seen one so don't know the attributes that make them so desireable. Kinda like the auto hoods, did'nt desire one, tried one and thought it was pretty cool, understood where people were coming from. Killed it out on a job, out a bunch of money and never bought another.
Parent - - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 02-02-2009 17:02
i thought about goin the auto lens route until i tried 1 at night wow might as well of been using sunglasses lol not for me i'll stick with my green #10
Parent - - By Cumminsguy71 (*****) Date 02-02-2009 17:08
Wow Shad, I see your doing what I'm doing......nothing. I'm trying to bid out a cattle stop for a local farmer to put across his drive in front of his gate. He said he can get a concret one for $700 but was curious about the metal, told him the metal alone would probably be $700. He said price it out anyhow.....keeping fingers crossed he likes metal more than concrete.
Parent - - By raftergwelding (*****) Date 02-02-2009 17:21
i've done them concrete lined with metal top works real good but they gotta be pumped out after a good rain how big is the opening are you gonna use pipe or i beam. the last 1 i did i used 4x4x1/2'' angle and ran pipe across the top of it customers request and it worked it was scary he was building a house and had concrte trucks running across it i warned him that if it bent or anything i would not be liable for it and he agreed i had to go back later and straighten it some it got bent from all the weight going across it i tried to get him let me set i beam in it while he was lining it but he disagreed oh well he is happy and so am i lol and yeah i'm doing a whole lot of nothing trying to sell some stuff to pay bills the bank is already calling on the truck might have to hide it in the brush
Parent - - By Cumminsguy71 (*****) Date 02-02-2009 17:43
He's wanting a 12' wide by 7' deep. We talked about pipe, I suggested 3" sch 40, figured he'd be running tractors and what not over it. Along the outer edges and in the center I was thinking 6" channel, I forget the weight on it but it was 7/16" wall thickness. One on each side and one in the center that way there was only a 6' span on either side. Thought about I-beam but also thought about the price, but may end up pricing it out cause I'll only need one. Worried with the channel though that the weight may make it fold out at the bottoms, but with the 3" pipe in there it'll cover half the span of the channel. I can see the angle you used would cut the cost substantially. Not sure how deep he wants this pit though. I'll probably call him back and discuss other cost cutting options. I need the work.....money but gotta make some money to.

I here ya on the bills. Fortunately my truck is paid for til the 27th of this month, insurance paid til the 1st of March. Now, have to pay for the house, and other stuff. Been selling stuff like a mad man. Tools from the old trade as a mechanic, walking through shop thinking about the last time I used something and stickin a price tag on it. Next thing to go I fear is my 66' Cub Cadet, hate to let it go but I have another in the shop that was my grandpa's and it's worth more to me than the other.

If my wife didnt need that surgery i would of been ok bu8t it had to be done so i made her get it i can understand on the lawn mower it'll all fall into play just gotta have faith and like i said theres always the brush but hard to hide the house.
Parent - - By hillbilly (**) Date 02-03-2009 04:23
after seeing how hard these lenses are to obtain and then the price that some are paying, I don't want to try one. If any of you hands ever run into me on a job and you have one of these, please don't let me try. I'm afraid I'd like it to much and then be bidding for one on Fleabay!! Haha
