Tread lightly.....In law, defamation (also called calumny, libel, slander, and vilification) is the communication of a statement that makes a false claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may give an individual, business, product, group, government or nation a negative image

Operative word being "false claim". A True claim is another story 'IF'; you have proof, and only then.

Yeah, I wasn't implying that what was already said was defamation but I wasn't sure the route this thread was about to take.

So what is supposedly so bad about the guy?  Did he squat in your wheaties?
Parent - - By bozaktwo1 (***) Date 01-07-2009 21:00
Wow.  Ok, I get it now.

Yeah, it's not my issue as I have never dealt with this person, but very disturbing non the less. I would be highly upset if I had gone through what has been described. I truly hope no one else is subjected to these kind of actions from an instructor.

Just a note;

Rich  DePue is a top flight instructor and formerly served as the Managing Director of Education Services for the American Welding Society... He is also a friend, colleague and mentor who I've worked closely with on many committee projects.

Only making sure that nobody confuses him with any of the negative responses to seminar instructors.

And......... Congrats Alan!

There is no excuse for this guy being allowed to return as an instructor. Either AWS doesn't care about their reputation, or they are hurting really bad for seminar instructors. I'll never question the man's knowledge, but he is a terrible instructor, and he does not like welders. If you go to one of his seminars with a welding background, you are screwed. If you're an engineer or have an inspection background, then you walk on water. This welder turned CWI personally wouldn't urinate on his head if it were on fire, hopefully due to a welder's stray spark!

Lawrence,
Coming from you, in the short time I have been priveldged with your input on this forum (since I have not been here long), I will sure make a note of the gentleman you mention. Hopefully I will someday have the honor of meeting him, and you. :-)

It is commendable of you to make sure there is no confusion. Ones reputation is a big thing in this welding world we live in. It will follow one for a long time if it is good, and longer if it is bad.

Hope you and yours had a good New Year!

I don't know Rich personally, however; he gave my original seminar years ago. I've got nothing but good things to say about the man. His name should not even be associated with this thread in my personal opinion.

http://files.aws.org/certification/docs/auto/2009_cwi_schedule.pdf

Here is the 2009 AWS CWI Seminar Schedule.  The above mentioned is scheduled to do four this year.

Bubba Seminar Schedule:

1) Baltimore MD  5-10-09
2) Philly PA        8-02-09
3) Charlotte NC  8-16-09
4) Roanoke VA   10-18-09

All I can do is warn you.

And anybody who reads this forum and signs up for the dates and locations whit Bubba does not have the right to complain. If no one signs up for the classes, THEN maybe AWS will do something. I find it hard to believe getting instructors for these classes is that difficult. If it is maybe AWS needs to start some training for instructors for these classes.

It sure sounds like a cush job. I'd be up for it, appears to be one of those jobs you can not get fired from.
Parent - - By ctacker (****) Date 01-08-2009 19:32
It would be a cush job if they paid you, isn't it voluntary like sitting on the commitee's?
Parent - By commonarc (**) Date 01-08-2009 22:38
They get paid.  Bubba told us so.  He told us many things that had nothing to do with the CWI seminar.
Parent - - By Kix (****) Date 01-08-2009 20:23
I think all of the instructors that do this all have other jobs.  I'm sure you are compensated for some for this task.  I know it would be good to have on the ol re zuumm A. LOL
Parent - By ctacker (****) Date 01-08-2009 20:57
I would'nt make a good instructor but I got plenty of war stories, where can I sign up?
Parent - By johnnyh (***) Date 01-08-2009 20:34
Logistically that might be easier said than done for some people but I agree.
