The field of welding is pretty new to me, and i'm still trying to cover some of the basics.
i intend to weld
1.A335P22 with A182F22
2.A106GrB with A-105
3.A53GrB with A-105
4.A182F22 with A312TP304
5.A-105 with A312TP304
Are these material combinations compatible as far as welding is concerned? I matched them with ANSI B16.11.
These are critical pipe lines no more than 1/2" in diameter apart from SS304, which is 1/4".
Fittings will be socket welds [mostly class 1500] (fillet joints), with no apparent PWHT requirement.
Is SMAW sufficient, or will it require a GTAW root followed by SMAW capping?

You'll be chasing your tail if you try to do this SMAW, GTAW is the only way to go. More welder friendly and possibly less repairs.

The material combinations are compatible with the proper electrode selection.  Either SMAW or GTAW can be used, however, properly trained welders are necessary for both processes.  The fact is that these combinations and the associated electrodes are some of the easier to weld/use.  Good Luck!

I have to agree with "Slagline". The sockets and pipe are small diameter and easily welded using GTAW. The arc is easier to control, it is easier to see the puddle, and the amperage is more easily control when compared to SMAW.
