In the 2006 book page 92 B-L2c-S what is the range of the root face dimensions as fit up for base metal thickness of 1 inch ? Is it f=1/4 max pluse 1/16 if that is right I guess I just don't understand sence I have never had to use this.

Yes it would be 1/4" plus the As Fit-up 1/16" tolerance. I just noticed that the As Detailed f = +0, -f. Looks like a typo.

Are you sure thats a typo? Could it be -f = root face, in other words, for 1/2" to 1" is f= +0, -1/4
and for 1" to 1-1/2" f= +0, -1/2" and so on?

I think the requirements are poorly communicated in this joint detail.

Basically I understand that the designer/detailer has the option to choose some value between 0 and 1/4in for the root face in his drawings. The welder/fitter must come with 1/16in of whatever value is used on the detail/shop drawing.

I would like to see the code state this requirement this way:
root face = 1/4in
as detailed = +0, -1/4in
as fitup = +/- 1/16in

This is the same requirement but stated in a clearer manner.

Ok Igot it. It also looks the same in both versions(in/mm). My mistake
