My buddy is a member and he told me that you have like three hours ,I think ,for the whole test . Thats from coupon cut  to  finish cap . That don't leave much time for error or smoke breaks .  If I were you , I would practice with some 3/16"  and get comfortable with them .

24 inch 500 wall, 12 straps(4 bends 8 breaks), the test is not timed, they have someone run your heat on your bead and then you are on your own. You fill and cap with 3/16 70+, They look at the bead and then they leave you to it. Not bad. Great guys to work with, if you have any questions dont be afraid to ask them. Good luck.

what do you mean bye run your heat for you?
Parent - - By hotrodtodd (**) Date 01-14-2009 01:57
it means adjusting your fine tune amperage knob either on the machine or a remote but majority of pipeliners will have a remote and their helper will "run their heat" up and down while he is actually welding you may have heard or read about up 5 down 5 etc

If they will let you use 5p+ do. they run better
