We're taking our first venture into welding 625 plate, and to boot, it's to high strength steel.  We're looking at the macros and we're not seeing a HAZ in the 625 plate.  We've got excellent metallurgists who know plate and the etching techniques to get the structure, but where the HAZ should be looks just like the plate.  Are we missing something?

what solution did you use?

You won't see an HAZ in the nickel. It isn't allotropic, thus there is no transformation to produce a change in microstructure. The grain size isn't typical changed by the change in temperature unless the nickel is cold worked prior to heating and cooling.
