Is there anything in D1.1 that would cover the procedure qualification on material thinner than 1/8". I have a customer who wants to qualify 0.095"thick 2x2 Sqr tubing CJP from one side only. Any ideas?

Problem is that D1.1 has a scope and it is limited to 1/8" and up and encourages the reader to consider D1.3 for anything thinner(see AWS D1.1:2008 paragraph 1.2).....but D1.3 is intended for less than 3/16" materials so maybe you should qualify a one sided joint per D1.3.

I'd try either D1.3 or 9.1.  The main difference between D1.1 (and most other codes) and D1.3 and 9.1 is the testing.

D1.3 has destructive tests. The test is to weld, put test into a vise, and pull it apart with vise grips.  There's no tension readings or measurement of the remaining nugget as far as I see.

D9.1 is simply weld and look.  No destructive tests at all.

I've had customers who want thin sheets (0.049 wall tube) tested to D1.1 standards.
