You might consider looking at the AWS Recommended Practice for GMAW. There may be something in that publication, but I don't have access to a copy while I'm traveling. You might also look at the Welding Procedure Handbook available from the James F. Lincoln Foundation (go to the Lincoln Electric website).

I find myself in the same position as Al.  Not in my stock of material I carry with me and I, also, am out of town at the moment.  But, I am very sure he is correct that both those publications have the information you are looking for.  The AWS handbook has several charts to cover several differnt needs for procedures.  They are easy to get from the bookstore on line here on the website.  You would probably recieve them in the mail sooner than I will be able to get to my copies and look up the info.
