We all know that stick welding overhead can, and will burn the S*** out of you and your equipment. I looked at my (not AD) hood and saw how bad the first glass plate got messed up from just 20 hours total of overhead.

How will the sensors do when subject to this destruction?

The sensors will do good as long as you keep the cover plate on the outside good. I'll usually replace the covers about 2 or 3 times a day if i'm doing alot of overhead and you gotta be careful too that the spatter doesn't build up on the lens and cover up the sensors or else you'll get flashed really good.
