Welcome to the forum
Yes
Current and Voltage peaks can be very high with some GMAWP programs. Some of the newer GMAWP programs are balencing more than 16 electrical variables in both constant current and constant voltage, in a sequence of several thousand times per second.. So those high spikes are controlled at very short dwell times.
Before any specific advice can be offered you are going to need to tell us a few things
Alloy (the 90/10 suggests steel but it's best to ask)
Material thickness?
Position and joint configuration? (Flat fillets? overhead?)
Weld size and contour?
Travel speed?
Weld power supply (Brand, age, pulser options etc)
