I have been welding now for 6 years. I have went through a few welding schools and have had a few instructors and all of them are the same.  They are oldtimers.  everyday in class i heard a story of how welding used to be and how they had to learn.  And I will tell you they had it tough.  No pipe bevelers, welding rods that just sucked, tig torches that where as big as their hands, and the list goes on and on.  All the oldtimers i have ever talked to tell me of how ventilation systems were hard to come by.  Most of them have told me the new age welders have in easy and boy are they right.  I just wanted to write this out and thank all the oldtimers for making welding what it is today and for the young kids out there including me.  Thank them every chance you get because without them welding would be harder than it is now to learn.

I hear that from my Pap all the time. He's 93 now and can still get around half way decent. He welded on pipelines in Alaska back in the early 70's. He tells me how easy I have it and listening to some of the stories he tell's me about how it was in Alaska I'm not sure I would want to do it. I'll be 46 next month and I'm thankful for all that the Oldtimers have done for us.  For the younger welders if you ever get a chance to talk to an older welder listen because you will learn alot.

I have been on 2 jobs now where one of the inspectors was original 798. As is one of the 1st few members to join.  They both knew each other and had tons of stories about each other. It was pretty cool to sit around at break time and just listen to them.
