"We've lent some of it. We've not lent some of it. We've not given any accounting of, 'Here's how we're doing it,"' said Thomas Kelly, a spokesman for JPMorgan Chase, which received $25 billion in emergency bailout money. "We have not disclosed that to the public. We're declining to."

"We're not providing dollar-in, dollar-out tracking," said Barry Koling, a spokesman for Atlanta, Ga.-based SunTrust Banks Inc., which got $3.5 billion in taxpayer dollars.

"We manage our capital in its aggregate," said Regions Financial Corp. spokesman Tim Deighton, who said the Birmingham, Ala.-based company is not tracking how it is spending the $3.5 billion it received as part of the financial bailout.

money couldn't be tracked. Bob Denham, a spokesman for North Carolina-based BB&T Corp., said the bailout money "doesn't have its own bucket." But he said taxpayer money wasn't used in the bank's recent purchase of a Florida insurance company. Asked how he could be sure, since the money wasn't being tracked, Denham said the bank would have made that deal regardless.

Morgan Stanley spokeswoman Carissa Ramirez, offered to discuss the matter with reporters on condition of anonymity. When AP refused, Ramirez sent an e-mail saying: "We are going to decline to comment on your story."

Banks that cant track money?

"ITS OBAMA'S FAULT".

Just wanted to get that out of the way Bryon.

MDK,
No we shouldn't accept this.
And for the record I think the 700B bailout was signed by Bush with support from reps and dems last year. We were told it was absolutely necessary or we would face financial disaster. The same thing Obama and the democratic controlled house and senate are telling us now. I think both were/are wrong. I think all the spending/ borrowing/ printing/stealing might bring inflation that will make J. Carter's four years look GOOD.

But I can't imagine how they (government) gave billions to banks, lenders, etc. and didn't require accountability since it was OUR money.
I hope that last sentence doesn't make me a socialist :)

Bryon,
I think the plan was much the same as GM and Chrysler, get the money, squander it in any way they see fit, and then come back and ask for more.

And for what its worth, NO we should not accept this.

this is in no way a O bashing topic, every1 from top to bottom is to blame.
Bush ,the big O, and all the mens horses and all the kings men are involved.
What im concerned about is trhe lack of accountability in this bailout.
its sad when they say we need billions to save the world , but then say we may still fail so be prepared to give more.
I think companies and banks are holding us for ransom.
We gave them money (like a parent bailing out a child) and we seen what they did with it............and what they didnt do.

If they only made $30 a pair instead of $73 a pair they would sell 3 times as many.  Hence they would provide jobs to americans, leave chineese kids alone, and make almost 150% of their profits.  But it wouldn't happen in the first year or two and they don't want to go that long only making a few million a year to make more in the long run.  Just my two cents but I agree with you 110%.

It really is too big of a problem to blame any one person, but my question is , were these banks/lenders forced to take the money or were they standing with hand out? Were they servants of Fannie & Frank?
Just a thought.

As President Obama's Chief of Staff, Emanuel is essentially the second most powerful politician in Washington.
Mr. Emanuel stated the following to the Wall Street Journal after Barack Obama named him as Chief of Staff prior to his inauguration (read carefully):

"You never want a serious crisis to go to waste. What I mean by that is that you have an opportunity to do things you could never do before. Things that we had postponed for too long, that were long-term, are now immediate and must be dealt with."

Sounds like .............. kick them when they r down...................tie them up with promises.
