WE PERFORM MANY OPERATIONS AT OUR FACILITY THAT WE KNOW REQUIRE THE WELDERS TO BE CERTIFIED TO AWS D1.1 (WORK PLATFORMS, LIFTING DEVICES ETC. ) BUT WHAT ABOUT OTHER FABRICATED ITEMS LIKE PARTS RACKS OR TRAILERS AND CARTS? HOW DOES ONE DETERMINE WHEN WELDING CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED AND WHEN IT IS NOT?

If you manufacture custom items then the requirements could be driven by customer requirements or State, Federal or Local laws.

If you have a quality manual these type of issues are usually addressed.

There may be organizations that use your type of equipment that have guidlines for specification writers/purchasing agents.

I recommend having all of your welders certified to perform the work you do. The process is simple and inexpensive if properly handled.

thanks for the reply Gerald. We do have a quality manual that specifies certified welders to be used for certain types of critical equipment. I agree with your recommendation to have all the welders certified. thanks
