Was reviewing some WPS's and PQR's that were written with the use of CO2 as the sheilding gas for FCAW E308LT-2. This just doesn't sound right to me. My experience with Austenitic SS's has always been to limit carbon contact. This quandary is really "fluxing" me up!

It sounds a bit counter intuitive but it's true.

Here are some examples of manufacturers specifications with 100% Carbon Dioxide for  300 and 400 series Stainless FCAW

Lawernce,

Thank you for the info. Yes, it seemed so "stand outish" with the CO2 (on 18-8 SS), it just reached out and slapped me! After their failure to include travel speed (for GMAW & FCAW) in the PQR (which throws a bolt down the carb to make calcs for Joules of heat input per company specs), the flags were flying.

Seems no matter no much we think we know, we are all just apprenticies in the Master's Shop!

Appreciate the help!

thank you,

John
