Well I got a call from my boss yesterday to come to the paint shop we use for some of our bigger items that will not fit in our booths. He had other things to attend to and needed a company rep. on site. This was a new experience for me as I got to watch them laser scan some of our parts. We needed to get very exact dimensions from the finished products so that other parts made from plexiglass could be manufactured to exact dimensions. This is necessary due to the fact that when the plexiglass parts get added on, they will be anywhere from 60 to 90 feet in the air and we do not want to have to mess around trying to get a perfect fit, essential for the end products cosmetic look. Anyways, I had never been exposed to laser scanning and it was quite the interesting deal. I am surprised I have not seen it before as talking to the guys they do a lot of stuff for pipelines, refineries, power plants, bridges, ect. They do roadways, race tracks, aerial surveys, and a whole gambit of other things. It was nice to get out for awhile. My only responsibilities were to insure that all pieces got scanned, and that the four pieces trucked up from Houston were unloaded off of three trucks, scanned, and loaded back on to two trucks, that then would proceed to Michigan. Nice change of pace. Here are some pics. NOTE: The star is not ours, I just thought it was cool. It is about five feet tall and there were several of them. I wondered where they were destined for. Texas of course, but where in TX. LOL
